Bramham is a village 4 Miles from Tadcaster. Many of the men remembered on the WW1 Memorial were local men or worked at nearby Bramham House owned by George Lane Fox, Bowcliffe Hall which was used as a rest home for injured officers during the war and bought in 1920 by the Aviation pioneer Robert Blackburn.

Robert probably bought this house as it was adjacent to RFC Tadcaster/ Bramham Moor at Headley Hall used to defend the city of Leeds and Sheffield from Zeppalin raids closing just before World War Two. And it can be presumed that again men from this airbase are remembered on the memorial. .

The village has a rich history and along with Bramham Park it truly is Yorkshires Downton Abbey with its rich heritage and past. Each year the Bramham Moor Hunt was held CLICK HERE for film of the 1925 event attended by Princess Mary and Lord Harewood.

The famous Bramham Horse trials are held here and now each year the now famous Leeds festival gathers to party. For more on Bramham and its history visit the excellent Historic Bramham Village.
