"SEE YE TO IT THAT THEIR NAMES ARE NOT FORGOTTEN"

 

The above quote is on the Tadcaster War Memorial, after leaving the Royal Air Force in 1997 I came home and on Remembrance Sunday stood looking at the names on the memorial wondering who these boys were where, how and when they had gave their lives.

 

After checking locally I could find no record of those mentioned and it became apparent that these boys had indeed been forgotten. 

 

The result was that in 2004 i started this website,  researching, collecting information and taking photos of the last resting place of those mentioned, by visiting countries around Europe where those on this site fought and gave their lives, this has resulted in spending hundreds of hours and thousands of pounds to ensure those mentioned on memorials in local towns and villages to Tadcaster are not forgotten. 

 

All the men remembered on this site had some type of connection to the memorials in the towns and villages mentioned on this site. They were either born there, enlisted there or lived and worked there. 

 

In many cases these men were from the same regiment and it can be presumed they all joined together as pals, and ultimately paid the highest price as pals, many lay side by side on foreign soil, gone but not forgotten.

 

Passchendaele, Gallipoli, Persia, India, Mons, Somme, Ypres, Alexandria all these and many more areas around the world contain a little piece of  Tadcaster and its surrounding area.
